How do I book something with you?
To book a charter, rental, sunset cruise, sailing lesson or enroll in our ASA Sailing School we ask that you do two things. First call us and second, download our Sailing Document" on our top page at the bottom. Complete this document and fax to us at 207-647-5720. Once we have reviewed that document and established that the dates you would like to sail are available, we will require payment in full as well as a credit card for a security deposit on the vessel. You can fax that to us, leave it on our voicemail or call us with it. The best time to reach us during this busy season is before 9am or after 6pm.
We cannot book any sailing service without payment in full. The most fair way to do this is first come, first serve.
What kind of boats do you have?
/We have keelboats up to an O'Day 272 and all the way down to little Sunfish. Please call us for details and availability.
When do we meet you for our rental or lessons?
Rentals are 9-5. As sailors, we expect you to be prompt. Please be on time as we do not have an office on the lakes, we need to travel 10-20 minutes to each boat.
Sailing lessons generally start at 1pm when the wind is usually the best. Lessons are on Sebago Lake where the winds are steady and the water is perfect.
How do we find you?
Our boats are on two lakes and our office is in Bridgton. The locations of our sloops are found at : www.sebagosailing.com/direct.htm http://www.sebagosailing.com/direct.htm . We deliver our other vessels to you if you are on the water and have a ramp at the property. Or we meet at the local ramp. Sunfish can often be brought right to your lakeside house and put in the water. Please be conservative when judging whether we can bring a sunfish down to your lake...would you carry a sunfish down those stairs?
What if it rains or I get seasick, will I get a refund?
We do provide rainchecks. A word about the weather here in the Western Lakes Region of Maine. It is not the same as Portland. It is usually warmer. When it rains in the summer it's usually a shower and it is generally a quick one. It could be raining on one lake and not another or one end of long lake and not the other. We can't refund if it showers, we'd be out of business before we started. However, if it's a complete washout, we are reasonable and will give you a rain date when we have a boat available.
As far as seasickness goes, we've yet to have someone seasick on the lakes, it's something you see on the ocean due to large waves and more likely swells. You know your own body and must take responsibility for it. We have tips & tricks we can show you on the boat. but we cannot account for your seasickness and cannot refund your money if you are seasick.
Are the boats owned by Sebago Sailing?
All of our sailboats are owned and maintained by Sebago Sailing, Inc. There is not a scrap of teak, fiberglass or chrome we have not personally sanded, varnished, buffed or washed. For this reason and as a matter of common courtesy we expect you to return the boats to us in the condition you received them. We know each boat intimitately and spend most of the winter maintaning them. If you scratch them, lose a shackle or break something, we'll know it. Please be honest with us and fill out the checkout form completely. If something needs to be done to a boat, we'll take care of it when you notify us. Certainly you do not want the sailor after you to get a surprise that could ruin their day or worse, endanger them!
All the boats are scrubbed before you get them, the decks, soles etc. Please let us know if you would like us to clean them if you do not have time. We understand the nature of vacations and will be happy to have the boat cleaned for you for a reasonable fee. The boats are not brand new, we know that, but if they were we'd have to double rates! We take pride in the care of our vessels and expect you to leave them in the condition you found them. No black soled shoes or suntan lotion that stains etc. Much of this is common sense. We don't like to charge you for clean up but we reserve the right to.
Do I tip the Captain?
Feel free to tip the captain if you wish - many of these captains are hired for the season only and for the simple reason they love sailing. If you feel they were good - it can't hurt to show them!
How do we contact you?
The best way to reach us is by phone before 9am or after 6pm. But feel free to try us anytime. Our cell phone has lousy reception as most do here in the mountains - if you leave a messageon the cell, we may not get it for hours... blame AT&T and Verizon like we do! It's frustrating for sure. You can obviously get us by email and we welcome that. Our fax number is 207-647-5720 - this is also our home phone, feel free to call it if the other line is busy. Ask for Mike or Maura.
For sailing lessons and sailing school enrollment, please give us at least a week's notice so we can ship the study materials to you. If it's short notice we can try but can't make any promises we'll get you into the class you wish. Many people are booking months in advance.
We run a small, seasonal business and do our very best to make you a happy sailor. To ensure our fees are affordable, we do not have an inside staff to handle phones etc. Please be patient and we will get back to you, we probably just have our hands full on a boat. Please leave a message with the best time to reach you and a phone number or two and we will make every effort to contact you within an hour if not sooner.
