At Sebago Sailing we want to introduce folks to the joy and challenges that sailing has to offer. We also want to share the sailing fun that the large inland lakes here in Maine afford. Sailing here is a very well kept secret, most agree. So often people spend a half day just getting ready to sail, only to get out on the ocean and be fogged in or lose out due to lousy weather and their cherished day off is shot. This can often turn people off on sailing. Heck, you can't even swim if you get hot! Well, you can but the Maine coast is not for the "body fat challenged". On our lakes you can be sailing, and often reefed in 20 minutes. And this is GOOD sailing!
We decided to launch our business after joining the Lakes Region Sailing Club in the mid 90's. At that time, we were relatively new to the inland lakes but were thrilled that a sailing club not only existed but thrived. We enjoyed (and still do) the Tuesday Night Race series and the major Saturday races. The people in the club are a fantastic group and we have had many fun times rafting up and making trips down the Songo River out to Sebago Lake from Long Lake. It was then we decided we needed to share our passion for sailing with others.
With the help of an (American Sailing Assocation) ASA Sailing School in Marco Island, Florida, we decided not only just to rent sailboats but to begin teaching sailing and soon became a certifed ASA facility.
We know you will enjoy sailing here as we do. Every year we meet new and veteran sailors alike who are often surprised at what tremendous sailing grounds we have and how beautiful the area is and we all love the fact that the swimming here in the summer is unbeatable!
